“THOSE WHO SPEND THEIR WEALTH [IN ALLAH ‘S WAY] BY NIGHT AND BY DAY, SECRETLY AND PUBLICLY – THEY WILL HAVE THEIR REWARD WITH THEIR LORD. AND NO FEAR WILL THERE BE CONCERNING THEM, NOR WILL THEY GRIEVE” (QUR’AN 2:274).

Who We Are

Since 1999, Muslim Housing Services (MHS) has served low-income and homeless families in Seattle and throughout King County. We were founded due to the urgent need of culturally and linguistically competent programs and staff, after noticing that many families were not able to access mainstream services. Many of our clients are from refugee and immigrant families, especially those from East Africa and the Middle East. We happily serve anyone who qualifies for our programs regardless of background.

We believe in the Housing First approach – that it is necessary for families to have shelter before they can be expected to make progress in the areas of employment, education, and becoming self-sufficient. We remove the barrier of housing and then work with clients to reach goals in other areas of life.

 Homelessness Prevention

Low-income renters with 14-day eviction notices are given short-term assistance to prevent them from becoming homeless.

Rapid Re-Housing

Homeless clients move into apartments owned by private landlords and MHS provides rent assistance depending on the level of need of the family.

Transitional Housing

MHS manages these units, which large homeless families rent from us temporarily for very reduced amounts.

Case Management

Clients in all of our programs receive culturally & linguistically appropriate case management to help them get back on their feet and become self-sufficient.

When clients meet with their case managers, they discuss whatever barriers they are trying to overcome. Common ones include:

  • Employment
  • Education
  • Language barriers
  • Healthcare
  • Domestic violence
  • Legal or immigration issues

Case managers connect clients to resources and help them troubleshoot ways to overcome these challenges. They provide advice on navigating systems that many clients are new to.
